Preschooler Wisdom

My daughter prefers to put her shoes on the wrong feet.

I loved my political theory class at Montclair Kimberley Academy. One of the things we discussed in great detail was the letter of the law versus the spirit of the law.

This morning, my husband donned his Flying Spaghetti Monster T-shirt. It features a doodle of His Noodliness and the initials FSM. As our 3-year-old knows her letters, my husband asked her to read his shirt.

Instead of spelling it out, she interpreted the meaning as such: “I’m a geek!”

What is written on the page is one thing. It’s static and immutable. What a reader sees is another thing entirely.
