Portland’s Independent Publishing Resource Center

The IPRC offers classes and open hours for members to come work on their projects. Equipment includes letterpresses, a screenprinting area, laptops and iMacs, and a book binding machine.

Last week, I toured the Independent Publishing Resource Center here in Portland, Oregon, courtesy of Justin Hocking, the executive director. As a new member, I’m excited about using one of the five iMacs with InDesign, taking publishing classes and being part of the Portland publishing community in this way.

Justin told me the center moved into its expansive new headquarters on Southeast Division about a year ago. “We try to be really accessible and affordable,” he said.

The IPRC is also home to the Yeti Research Station. Free tours are available for nonmembers during open hours.

Everywhere I looked at the IRPC, there was a personal, creative touch. This detail is from a shelf of publishing and art supplies.

These five new iMacs are available for use by members, and they have InDesign installed.

I love all the fun furnishings and can totally imagine myself working right here on a Forest Avenue Press deadline.

There are so many lovely details at the IPRC, as befits a creative nonprofit. Justin Hocking, executive director, pointed out the casters on some of the workbenches, which allows them to be moved as needed.
